Ashtanga Vinyasa Workshop w/Ajay Kumar @ZenYoga, Media City, Dubai

Thursday

7-8.30PM: This evening class will be a guided Primary series class. The class will offer and in-depth look at the postures from the Primary Series with technical explanations of drishti, breath and how to enter and exit each asana properly.

Friday

7.30-9.30AM: Will begin with a Mysore style self-practice in the morning. This is the traditional way of practicing Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as it allows students to move at their own pace. Ajay will be able to individually assist, adjust and guide students in their practice.

12-1.30PM: The second session will look at the first 4 limbs of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system and how they relate to the physical practice. A discussion of the yoga sutras will also be included.

2-4PM: The last session of the day is workshop dedicated to opening the hips. The hips form the foundation of many asanas and are a problem area for many students. Here we will look at exercises that can open and strengthen this part of the body so that students will be able to access them more effectively in their practice.

7pm: Kirtan. Open to all. Come sing and chant! (To be held at Zen Yoga)

Saturday

8-10AM: This final day will also start with a Mysore self practice.

12.30-2PM: The second session of the day will consider the last 4 limbs of the Ashtanga and their relation to our daily practice. There will be time for Q&A also.

2.30-4.30PM: The last session of the workshop is a backbending class. Here students will learn how to backbend safely, using all three parts of the spine. Students will also get the opportunity to explore Handstands to achieve balance and stability in the pose.
